Sapphire Necklace
What is champagne’s life expectancy?
I’m planning a surprise for my girlfriend, which consists of me putting a sapphire necklace into her favorite champagne. The only problem is, I don’t know if champagne goes bad soon after opening or lasts a bit. In other words, how far in advance can I put in the necklace without sacrificing the taste and bubbliness?
On a side note, will a sapphire necklace have any adverse effects on the champagne?

I probably should have been more clear. I was hoping to drill a small hole in the cork (I’m a modeller you see) and put the necklace’s chain through it. That way, when she opens it, there’ll be a sapphire necklace (glistening from the champagne i hope!) dangling from it.
You are unclear as to whether you plan to hide it in the bottle or slip it into her glass. If it’s the former, you’ll have to excuse yourself and go into the kitchen, take the Champagne out of the fridge, open it, insert the surprise, clean up the overflow, take the bottle and two glasses back to your girlfriend, pour and enjoy ( and hope the necklace slides out of the bottle gracefully into her glass). Or you could secretly put the necklace into her glass first, then pour and enjoy.
Champagne begins to lose it’s effervescence rapidly after the bottle is opened, so you can’t really prepare this surprise more than a few minutes in advance.
Also, necklace might impart a metallic flavor the wine.
